Fiber
There are so many reasons to love alpacas and many of those reasons are all about the fiber!
Amazing Softness - The incredible softness of alpaca fiber is due to the fineness of each strand and also it's scale structure. Both wool and alpaca fiber fibers have tiny microscopic scales along the length of each strand. The scales on wool fibers stand out from the center of the strand. When worn against the skin, these scales scratch give an itchy sensation. The scales on alpaca fibers lay flat and as a result are not scratchy. Alpaca is "prickle free"!
Unparalleled Warmth - Alpaca fiber is lighter weight and warmer than wool. Its hollow structure gives it an amazing thermal capacity and at the same time allows the fiber to breathe.
It's Hypoallergenic! - Alpaca is lanolin free. Lanolin holds dust and microscopic allergens that create allergies to wool. Most people who have wool allergies are allergic to the lanolin and it's associated allergens.
Colors galore! - There are 22 officially recognized natural alpaca colors. They range from white to beige to browns, maroon, black, silver and rose-greys. Alpaca fiber can also be dyed. Color options are limitless!
